Pre-Owned Vintage Ladies Rolex 9ct Gold Watch c1948
This watch has a precision movement even though it is not a precision marked watch on the dial, those were introduced from 1949 onwards I believe. A beautiful vintage cocktail watch for the discerning Lady, a wonderfully clear dial face that belies it's size.
Case: The watch features a 20mm solid 9ct gold case & case back hallmarked as 9ct gold, made in Birmingham in 1948 by ALD (which is the Dennison watch case makers mark – also inscribed on the inside case back). Also inscribed is the case number: 87811 and watch serial number: 189612.
Dial: This beautiful vintage Rolex has a fantastic condition white/cream/silvered face with raised Arabic gold numerals with gold hour & minute hands. It has a secondary seconds sub dial at 6 o’clock with a gold hand. The dial is also signed with Rolex. The crown is signed.
Movement: Vintage 1940’s Rolex Precision Swiss Made Superbalance Patented, 17 Rubies with small seconds, hand wound, 17.5 mm. The 17 jewel, manually wound, ‘Precision’ movement incorporates the Rolex ‘Superbalance’ which was first patented in 1935 under Swiss Patent number 188077. The ‘Superbalance’ was designed by Rolex to be more streamlined than the traditional compensation balances and was also heavier to help improve accuracy.
Strap/Bracelet: This watch comes with an after market Black leather type strap with a gold coloured metal buckle.
The watch is in good condition for the age. Crystal has some small scratches but barely noticeable with the naked eye, the case has a few tiny dinks in and tiny scratches, a larger dink can be found on the side at 9 o’clock but as the watch is small these are not very noticeable.
The watch does not come with papers or a Rolex Box.
This watch presents in good condition for its age, with moderate signs of wear (scratches and/or marks), commensurate with careful ownership and use. Please refer to the photographs.
Watch winds and working on test, please note that the movement has not been professionally tested for the accuracy of time.
