The Fortis B-42 Marinemaster is a rugged, professional-grade Swiss tool watch. Known for exceptional legibility and robust build quality, it features a 42mm steel case, 200m water resistance, and highly luminous details.

This is a unworn Pre-Owned Fortis B-42 with the highly visible yellow detailing which looks fantastic against the black & white dial/bezel layout.

Case:

Measuring 42mm in diameter, the solid stainless steel case of this timepiece is fitted with a sapphire crystal with anti-reflective coating on both sides and a screw-down case back with the heavily embossed submarine emblem with the watch model and serial numbers engraved around the edge. It has a broad fluted black / yellow unidirectional turning bezel with a 5 minute scale. Unlike standard divers, this B-42 utilises an engineered push-pull crown system. Fortis designed it so the external water pressure dynamically seals the crown tighter as you dive deeper, maintaining its full 200m depth rating without needing a screw thread.

Dial:

This version of B-42 Marinemaster Day/Date boats a black matte flange with a 13-24 hour-scale. The hour and minute hands, hour blocks and indices are coated with white Superluminova which has a blue afterglow in darkness, Arabic numerals in yellow and the centre seconds hand in yellow with a luminous dot. The triangles at 3 o’clock next to the date and day complication indicates the direction you rotate the crown for quick adjustment of the day and date.

Movement:

The ETA 2836-2 is a legendary, workhorse Swiss automatic watch movement. Widely praised for its durability, accuracy, and easy serviceability, it acts as the reliable engine behind the standard Day/Date Fortis B-42 Marinemaster. The movement has 25 jewels and has a power reserve between 38-40 hours.

The movement core functionality & quirks:

Hacking Seconds: Pulling the crown out all the way completely stops the second hand. This allows you to synchronize the time precisely to a reference clock.

Instantaneous Calendar Jump: Unlike some movements where the day and date slowly drag into the next frame over several hours, the ETA 2836-2 is engineered to snap the date instantly right around midnight.

Bilingual Day Wheel: The day disk on Fortis watches is typically bilingual (usually English and German). When setting up the watch, you select your preferred language, and the movement automatically skips the secondary language choices during the daily jump sequence

Strap/Bracelet:

The rubber bracelet (or strap) for the Fortis B-42 Marinemaster is highly regarded for its custom engineering, balancing the chunky weight of the watch case perfectly. However, its proprietary design has distinct structural mechanics that you should know.

The rubber strap is a cut to size strap whereby you measure and cut small segments off the bracelet to size. This strap has not been cut so it will fit a 22cm wrist in its current size and can be downsized to fit a smaller wrist (search google for the correct method to do this).

This watch has been checked and certified as clear by ‘The Watch Register’ the Global Database of Lost, Stolen and Counterfeit Watches. This database covers a broad range of incidents including robberies, burglaries, snatches, frauds, postal losses, accidental losses and fakes. (Certificate Included)

The watch which was produced in late 2014 to early 2015 comes with the original box which shows some deterioration. There is also an instruction manual and a Sterling Vault Auctioneers Authentication Card. There is no other paperwork.
